Wool, new wool, or lambswool – what is the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made from 25% wool from Gotland sheep—a breed shorn as far back as the Viking Age, when the high quality of their wool was already highly prized—and 75% lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the very first shearing of a lamb; it is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like new wool, it is typically harvested from living sheep in the spring, usually in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being dyed a vibrant sun-yellow and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is known for being soft, breathable, and having excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan takes great care to ensure the blanket feels soft by pre-combing the lambswool; however, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket, and the blanket may shed slightly at first.

The Gotland blanket can be easily washed at 30 degrees, allowing you to clean your throw yourself whenever needed. To enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it is best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that natural lanolin has a self-cleaning effect, which is gradually washed out with every wash. The yellow Gotland blanket airs out well when hung outside on the line, after which it is ready to be used as a throw again.
