Wool, new wool, or lambswool - what is the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made partly (1/4) of new wool from the Gotland sheep, which was already shorn by the Vikings who appreciated its high quality, and 3/4 lambswool. Lambswool is the term used for wool from a sheep's or lamb's very first shearing. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like new wool, it is obtained from living sheep, usually in spring and ideally in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being dyed a wonderful orange and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly itchy, breathable, and has excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything possible to ensure the blanket feels soft, and the lambswool is specially pre-combed for this; nevertheless, this quality is naturally itchier than a cotton blanket would be, and the blanket will shed a little, especially at the beginning.

The Gotland blanket can be washed wonderfully at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself when needed. To ensure you enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it is best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that the natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect and you wash it out bit by bit with every wash. The orange Gotland blanket airs out in the fresh air before it goes back onto the sofa.
