Weingut Wittmann – Riesling from Rheinhessen
The Wittmann winery can look back on an incredible 357 vintages. Documented since 1636, the Wittmann family has been running the estate in Westhofen in southern Rheinhessen, specifically in the Wonnegau region, with extensive knowledge of the soils and vines in the vineyard, the climate and the weather, and how to create wonderful, high-quality Rieslings and Burgundies from them under new conditions every year. Philipp Wittmann has long proven that quality is close to his heart: in 2020, the winery celebrated 30 years of organic cultivation, as it has been working 100% according to the guidelines of controlled organic viticulture since 1990. Anyone who takes organic cultivation seriously will want to go a step further and work biodynamically. Philipp Wittmann has been following this path since 2003, also as a member of the vintner group RESPEKT, which also includes Fred Loimer, Gernot Heinrich, and Herbert Zillinger. The ecological management of the vineyards encourages the vital vines to grow deeper into the stony soil, which produces mineral-rich, long-lived wines that are characterized by the calcareous terroir. The wines from Weingut Wittmann are puristic, clear, dry, and at the same time juicy and enormously drinkable.
