Battenfeld Spanier - Winery from Hohen-Sülzen
The Battenfeld Spanier winery is located in the Wonnegau region not far from Worms, in the small town of Hohen-Sülzen. Hans Oliver Spanier founded an independent winery in 1991 after completing his winemaking apprenticeship. Within a very short time, he became a shooting star of the Rheinhessen region and a pioneer of a new, highly purist style; Battenfeld-Spanier wines have been certified organic since 1996. Today, the winery is one of the top estates in the region, and Hans Oliver Spanier is among the best winemakers in Germany.
Battenfeld Spanier - uncompromisingly focused on quality
Battenfeld Spanier wines are uncompromising, shaped by limestone sites, the vitality of soils managed according to biodynamic guidelines since 2007, consistent yield reduction, spontaneous fermentation, and the belief that wine will become what it should be if given enough time. The roughly 34 hectares of vineyards in prime locations in Hohen-Sülzen, Mölsheim, and the Zellertal are 70% planted with Riesling, with the remainder divided between Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Silvaner, and Chardonnay. Battenfeld Spanier wines impress with their very lean, cool structure, an aroma spectrum beyond fleeting fruit notes, and their saline character derived from their origin.
