Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit from Weingut Pflüger
The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit from Weingut Pflüger is a dry organic white wine from Bad Dürkheim. Fresh, light, with a salty quartzite minerality. Not a loud, tropical-fruit Sauvignon, but a refined Palatinate wine with clear acidity.
Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit 2024 from Weingut Pflüger is a dry organic white wine from the Palatinate region. The quartzite subsoil gives this Sauvignon Blanc a salty minerality, complemented by the variety’s typical cool freshness, a medium body, good acidity, and a moderate alcohol content of 12% ABV.
White currant, gooseberry, peach
The nose is brimming with white currants, green gooseberries, juicy peach, and a hint of exotic passion fruit. A bouquet that is crisp, fresh, and invigorating all at once, immediately making you want the first sip.
On the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc is wonderfully fresh and remarkably light, carried by the salty vein of the quartzite. With a medium body, good acidity, and clear minerality, it leaves a lasting impression. Fresh, salty, invigorating – a wine that wakes you up.
Pairs with Asian cuisine, steamed fish, and ceviche
The Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit pairs with a wide variety of dishes and remains memorable. Its mineral, invigorating character makes it a bright-eyed companion for light cuisine.
Served well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees, it finds its place alongside Asian vegetable dishes, steamed fish, or crustaceans with lemon. The salty minerality picks up every maritime note and carries it further. It also shows how well acidity and salt play together when paired with fresh goat cheese, asparagus with vinaigrette, or ceviche. In this way, a lean wine can support an entire evening full of fresh courses. For those who prefer something rounder and creamier, try the Palatinate Chardonnay from Quarzit.
Pebbles, quartzite, and biodynamic farming
The vines for this Sauvignon Blanc, partly from Weingut Pflüger and partly from fellow organic winegrowers, grow in organically cultivated vineyards in Bad Dürkheim and Friedelsheim. A light pebble soil and the quartzite in the subsoil bring the fine, salty minerality into the wine.
Since the 2008 vintage, Alexander Pflüger has been working biodynamically, avoiding artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, and following the rhythm of the seasons and the moon, as Alexander consistently practices—the winery is Demeter-certified. In the winery opposite the salt works in Bad Dürkheim, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is spontaneously fermented.
Reductive aging in steel tanks creates a typical, aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. The cooler and more oxygen-free this aging process, the fresher and clearer the green fruit and salty minerality remain in the glass. This results in a Palatinate Sauvignon Blanc that combines the cool clarity of the variety with the warm origin of its soil.
Gooseberry and peach in a cool glass
Serve it well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees, where gooseberry and peach show their best side. After opening, it stays fresh for two to three days if kept cool.
