Organic Sauvignon Blanc from quartzite in the Palatinate
The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit from the Pflüger winery is a dry organic white wine from Bad Dürkheim. Fresh, exotic, with salty quartzite minerality. A young, racy vintage with vibrant acidity and tropical fruit.
Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit 2025 from the Pflüger winery matures on the quartzite soil of the Palatinate, which gives it a salty minerality. This dry organic Sauvignon is wonderfully fresh and light, with a medium body, a vibrant acidity of 7.2 g/l, and a moderate 12.5% vol.
White currant, peach, passion fruit
On the nose, the Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit smells of white currants, juicy peach, and exotic passion fruit. A clear, lively start with verve and tropical charm.
On the palate, it is wonderfully fresh and legendarily light; the racy acidity of this vintage gives it drive and length, while the salty quartzite vein carries it further. Fresh, salty, lively – a Sauvignon that awakens the senses and makes you crave summer.
Pairs with shrimp, oysters, and grilled asparagus
The Sauvignon Blanc Quarzit pairs well with the most diverse dishes and remains memorable. Its mineral, lively character makes it the perfect companion for light cuisine.
Enjoy it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius with fried shrimp, oysters, Asian vegetable dishes, or grilled asparagus with lemon. The racy acidity and salt keep any spiciness and maritime notes in balance. It is also an alert companion that never tires, perfect for sushi, a goat cheese salad, or a chilled cucumber soup on hot days. Thus, a single wine can carry you through an appetizer, main course, and a mild evening.
Those who prefer something rounder and more Burgundian may enjoy the Palatinate Pinot Blanc from quartzite.
Quartzite and pebbles, biodynamically farmed
The vines for this Sauvignon Blanc, some from the Pflüger winery and others from friendly organic winemakers, grow in organically farmed vineyards in Bad Dürkheim and Friedelsheim. The light gravel soil and the quartzite in the subsoil provide the fine, salty minerality.
Since the 2008 vintage, Alexander Pflüger has been working biodynamically, avoiding artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, and following the course of the seasons and the moon, as Alexander has done year after year – the winery is Demeter-certified. In the press house opposite the salt works in Bad Dürkheim, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is spontaneously fermented.
The reductive aging in stainless steel tanks results in a typical, aromatic Sauvignon Blanc. The cooler and more oxygen-free the aging process, the clearer and racier the young vintage shows in the glass, without losing its exotic fruit. It is precisely the cool clarity of the stainless steel tank that preserves the fine balance between fruit and salt in this acid-driven vintage.
Passion fruit and peach at eight to ten degrees
Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, so the passion fruit and peach show at their best. After opening, it stays fresh for two to three days if kept cool.
