Cuvée Noir, organic red wine from the Palatinate
The 2024 Cuvée Noir from the Pflüger winery is an organic red wine from the Palatinate, a fruity and spicy blend of St. Laurent and Dornfelder. Dry, harmonious, and highly drinkable. A sociable red that keeps fruit and spice in balance.
Cuvée Noir 2024 from the Pflüger winery is a red wine blend of St. Laurent and Dornfelder, grown in Bad Dürkheim in the Palatinate. A cuvée combines the strengths of its grape varieties into a unique personality – this red proves to be pleasantly dry with 13% vol. alcohol, while remaining round and accessible, with a subtle 2.3 g/l of residual sugar.
Ripe plum, blackberry, dark spice
Notes of ripe dark plums and blackberries bloom on the nose, accompanied by spicy allspice and fine roasted aromas. A bouquet that calls for autumn and warm cooking.
On the palate, the Cuvée Noir is fruity, spicy, and harmonious, pleasantly dry and of good length. Juicy, spicy, sociable – it displays tension and great drinking pleasure while remaining round and uncomplicated. A red that brings the table together without dominating, and fits perfectly into the glass even without a special occasion.
Pairs wonderfully with pizza and pasta
The Cuvée Noir loves hearty cuisine – pizza and pasta with tomato sauce, braised Mediterranean vegetables, crispy meat from the grill. Its spice stands up to any robust sauce.
Its place is at 16 to 18 degrees alongside roasted vegetables with herbs, a hearty lasagna, or grilled paprika sausage. The round fruit wraps softly around salty and smoked flavors, turning a simple dinner into a small treat. For a bright counterpart at the table, reach for the Palatinate Riesling from Bunter Sandstone.
Sandy sites and Palatinate oak
The grapes for the Cuvée Noir grow on the sandy soils of the Nonnengarten and Sonnenberg sites in Bad Dürkheim, managed biodynamically and organically. The warm sand produces ripe, round grapes.
Since the 2008 vintage, Alexander Pflüger has worked biodynamically, eschewing artificial fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, and aligning with the seasons and the moon, as Alexander has done year after year – the winery is Demeter-certified. In the press house opposite the salt works in Bad Dürkheim, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented spontaneously.
The grape varieties are fermented separately and only blended afterward. The wine then matured for around ten months in large barrels made of Palatinate oak – the large barrel gives it structure and fine spice without masking the fruit. The more careful the aging, the rounder the cuvée remains in the glass and the more harmoniously St. Laurent and Dornfelder meet.
A moment to breathe for plum and spice
Serve the Cuvée Noir at 16 to 18 degrees and give it a moment to breathe; that is when it shows its plum and spice to best effect. Once opened, it remains drinkable for two to three days if well sealed. You can find more robust companions among our red wines, and the entire assortment under Weingut Pflüger. A red for sociable evenings with friends and good food.
