Langenlois Grüner Veltliner, the village wine from the Kamptal
The 2025 Langenlois Grüner Veltliner from Fred Loimer is a dry organic village wine from the Kamptal. It sits between the lighter regional wine and the great single-vineyard wines – fresh, mineral, and precise. It is the wine with which the Kamptal bridges the gap between the everyday and the ambitious.
Langenlois Grüner Veltliner 2025 is the name of the village wine from the Fred Loimer winery in Langenlois, the wine town at the heart of the Kamptal. A classic Grüner Veltliner, dry and clear-cut, which bridges the gap between the simple regional wine and the Erste Lage (premier cru) wines. A step up, without having to dig deep into your pockets.
Yellow apple, lemon verbena, wet stone
On the nose, the Grüner Veltliner smells of dried yellow apples and lemon verbena, accompanied by a hint of wet stone and flint. If you take a closer look, you will find marigold and chamomile, followed by apple jelly and dried pineapple.
On the palate, it is dry, with a creamy extract sweetness, juicy and mineral-salty, with balanced acidity and great harmony. With 5.3 g/l acidity and 3 g/l residual sugar, it remains lean and precise. A village wine that represents its home with flying colors.
For us, it goes wonderfully with appetizers
Its fresh, harmonious character makes the Langenloiser a reliable all-rounder – perfect for an aperitif, appetizer, or light main course.
For us, it goes wonderfully with light vegetables, pan-fried fish, and, in true Kamptal fashion, Wiener Schnitzel. It also pairs well with spring salads featuring asparagus or mild cheese. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. If you are looking for a leaner entry-level wine, go for the regional wine from the Kamptal, or browse our dry white wines if you are a lover of the category.
50-year-old vines on gneiss
2025 was a calm vintage in the Kamptal – a dry winter, well-distributed rain, a warm summer, and a cool August. The harvest took place from mid-September to October 10th, resulting in perfectly healthy grapes with moderate sugar ripeness. This gives the 2025 vintage its fresh acidity and moderate strength.
The grapes grow on up to 50-year-old vines around Langenlois, mainly on gneiss, with a small portion on loess and sandy-clay sediments – the gneiss provides the fine, salty finish. It is fermented spontaneously, 70 percent in stainless steel and 30 percent in large 2,500-liter oak barrels.
The wine matures on the fine lees for five months before being bottled in April 2026. Fred Loimer manages the vineyards biodynamically; within the respekt-BIODYN association, they take a stricter approach in the vineyard than some seals require. You can find more from the producer among the other wines from the Fred Loimer winery.
Better in a white wine glass than a narrow tumbler
Well-chilled at 9 to 11 degrees, the Langenloiser shows all its freshness, even more so in a white wine glass than in a narrow tumbler. With 12% vol., it remains pleasantly light. It is most enjoyable when drunk young – there is no need to wait for this village wine.
