Ekelund Amor al Arte – Kitchen Towel
Frida Kahlo is one of the most important Latin American artists of the 20th century. As a contemporary witness, she experienced the most important social and artistic movement in Mexican history during and after the Cristero War, the culture war following the Mexican Revolution.
The iconic artist was born on July 6, 1907, in Mexico City and passed away on July 13, 1954, also in Mexico City. Since 1959, the Frida Kahlo Museum has been located in her parents' house, also known as Casa Azul, which displays many of her paintings, her clothing, and indigenous jewelry.
Inspired by Mexican folklore, Frida Kahlo wears the Tehuana costume in many of her self-portraits, which refers to her mestizo heritage and was stylistically defining. She likely owed her creativity to her father, the German-Mexican photographer Guillermo Kahlo. With her flower-adorned hairstyle, exaggerated blush, and strong eyebrows, she became a work of art herself. In her paintings, which are characterized by a very autobiographical style, she processed the highs but above all the lows that life gave her: illness, death, suffering, love, and life – Viva la Vida. Thus, the artist, who always stood up for women's rights, is a role model for people all over the world with her strength, endurance, and fearlessness.

Weaving art from Sweden – in Frida Kahlo design
Ekelund home textiles combine modern Nordic design with traditional weaving art from Sweden. Ekelund tablecloths and all other textiles have been produced exclusively in their own manufactory in Horred, Sweden, since 1692. All patterns are woven using a patented innovative method, the Rainbow method, in which 8 colored threads are woven together in such a way that the motif can be seen in different colors on the reverse side. Ekelund fabrics consist of 100% organic cotton and organic linen. All textiles are certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which establishes ecological and social criteria for the entire production process.
