Dry Riesling from Baden with notes of citrus and apricot
The Klumpp Riesling 2023 is a dry organic white wine from Baden, fresh and subtly fruity. Candied citrus, yellow plum, and apricot, accompanied by tropical fruits and a creamy melt. An uncomplicated estate wine with tension and drinkability.
The Klumpp Riesling 2023 from the Klumpp winery is a dry estate wine from the Kraichgau region. Candied citrus fruit, yellow plums, and apricots meet exotic tropical notes and a creamy melt. Delicate, subtly fruity, with lively acidity – a wine that leaves you wanting another glass. The moderate alcohol content of 12 percent keeps it light and digestible, without sacrificing fruit or spice.
Riesling can be both: grand and serious, or simply a source of pleasure. This vintage belongs to the latter – a dry white wine for every day that is fresh enough for summer and fine enough for a good meal. It is exactly this versatility that makes it a reliable companion in the glass. At a price point that makes it an everyday wine, there is a surprising amount of the Klumpp signature in the bottle.
Citrus, yellow plum, and tropical fruit
On the nose: candied citrus, yellow plum, and apricot, plus exotic tropical fruits.
On the palate, the white wine is delicate and juicy, carried by a mineral, lively acidity and a fine melt. Fresh, fruity, animating – vinified dry yet full of ripe fruit. That is how a successful vintage tastes.
Light yellow in the glass with green reflections, slim and clear on the palate. A white wine that is particularly refreshing when served chilled and gains fullness with some time in the glass without losing its freshness.
An all-rounder for fish, salad, and cheese
This dry white wine is a versatile companion, pairing well with everything from fish and salad to mild cheese.
It pairs beautifully with pan-fried trout, colorful summer salads, light poultry, and young soft cheese. Served well-chilled at 8 to 10 degrees, it is in its element, whether on the terrace or at dinner. Its lively acidity cuts through the creaminess of a Flammkuchen perfectly. It is also a fine companion to asparagus with ham or smoked fish on bread.
For those looking for the riper predecessor, we offer the Klumpp Riesling 2022 alongside it, which brings a touch more maturity.
Gravity instead of pumps
Markus and Andreas Klumpp produce wine from roughly 30-year-old vines in the Kraichgau region, organically certified and with a great deal of manual labor in the vineyard.
The grapes grow on two types of loess soil: on lime-rich, light loess for expressive yellow-fleshed fruit, and on loamy loess with shell limestone for structure and minerality. Harvesting is done by hand in the early, cool morning hours to ensure the fruit remains fresh. The interaction of these two soils gives the wine its balance of fruit and minerality.
At the winery, nothing is pumped; grapes and mash reach the fermentation tanks via gravity, where the wine ferments slowly for a good three weeks and rests on the lees for three months – this is what makes it so feather-light. You can find it alongside the Klumpp Pinot Blanc among the wines from the Klumpp winery. Hats off.
