Lemon Liqueur as a Baden Limoncello from the Kaiserstuhl

The lemon liqueur from Faude feine Brände is a Baden limoncello made from aromatic lemon peels, macerated in the Kaiserstuhl region at 30% ABV. Bright yellow, intense, with reduced sweetness – fresher and clearer than many an Italian original.

Lemon liqueur is Florian Faude's Baden answer to Italian limoncello, produced in Bötzingen in the Kaiserstuhl. He uses lemons with plump skins and a high concentration of oil, the essential oils of which make the liqueur bright yellow and intense. Clear, fresh, citrusy, without any sticky sweetness.

Bright yellow, intense and clear

As soon as you open the bottle, clouds of citrus rise to meet you, fresh and vibrant, reminiscent of ripe lemon peel.

In the glass, it glows sun-yellow, clear and inviting – the color of a summer afternoon on the coast. The scent alone brings a piece of Italy to the Kaiserstuhl and makes you crave that first cool sip.

On the palate, this Baden lemon liqueur is intensely citrusy, with reduced sweetness and a clear, almost crystalline aroma profile. Fruity, fresh, lemon-forward – this makes it more elegant than many limoncellos, without any sticky heaviness. The finish remains clean and vibrant.

Limoncello originates from the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento, where it is traditionally macerated from the thick rinds of sun-ripened lemons. Florian translates this concept to the Kaiserstuhl – with less sugar and more clarity, keeping the lemon in the foreground rather than the sweetness.

Limoncello Spritz with Prosecco and soda

Enjoyed neat and well-chilled, this lemon liqueur is a classic after-dinner drink; in a Limoncello Spritz, it becomes the ultimate summer drink, light and sparkling.

For a Limoncello Spritz, pour 4 cl of lemon liqueur over ice, add chilled Prosecco, a splash of soda, and a lemon twist – and your vacation in a glass is ready. It is equally delightful served neat and ice-cold after a meal. Drizzled over lemon sorbet or vanilla ice cream, it makes for a quick dessert, and a dash elevates any summer punch. If you prefer more citrus, try the Citron from Sicily or the fruity rhubarb liqueur.

Florian's flair for citrus, from the Kaiserstuhl to Sicily

Florian Faude understands citrus fruits like few others, from Calabrian bergamot to Sicilian mandarin, and applies this knowledge to his lemon liqueur.

For this purpose, he selects lemons with particularly oil-rich peels, because that is where the aroma lies. The peels release their essential oils, while a reduced amount of sugar keeps the liqueur lean and clear – making it more elegant than many traditional examples. Florian has already shown how much fruit can fit into a clear glass with blood orange, mandarin, and bergamot; this yellow liqueur fits in seamlessly.

Florian, a trained winemaker, founded his distillery in Bötzingen in 2006 and built his own distillery in 2017. He bottles it at 30% ABV in a 0.5-liter bottle, without artificial flavors. You can find more spirits from Faude feine Brände with us.

Straight from the freezer into the glass

Ice-cold at 8 degrees directly from the freezer, it is particularly refreshing and silky. Once opened, it keeps for a long time if stored in a cool place. In its sunny yellow bottle, it makes a cheerful gift for anyone dreaming of the south. A sip of sunshine, whether served neat or in a spritz.
