Questions about Cru di Puglia Olive Oil IGP?

We are happy to help you with Olio Ciccolella.

Cru di Puglia, the PGI olive oil from Apulia

Cru di Puglia by Olio Ciccolella is a PGI olive oil from Apulia, a balanced blend of Coratina and Ogliarola Barese. Medium-fruity and harmonious, with a subtle spiciness and mild bitterness. A versatile extra virgin olive oil for everyday cooking.

PGI olive oil like Cru di Puglia carries a Protected Geographical Indication and is guaranteed to come from Apulia. For this oil, Olio Ciccolella blends the robust Coratina with the mild Ogliarola Barese to create a medium-fruity, balanced oil. An extra virgin olive oil that is neither too pungent nor too reserved, but hits the golden mean between the two varieties.

Such an oil is the reliable all-rounder in the kitchen for anyone who does not want to open a different bottle for every dish. It has enough character to taste good raw, yet remains delicate enough not to overpower anything.

Medium-fruity, spicy and harmonious

Cru di Puglia tastes balanced: green fruit and a subtle spiciness, complemented by a mild bitterness that never bites, and just a touch of peppery pungency.

You will notice this balance immediately on a piece of bread, which is what makes the oil so versatile. It goes well with vegetable dishes and roasted vegetables, fresh cheese and mild cheeses, steamed or fried fish, and it refines salads, dips, and sauces without dominating them. Drizzled over minestrone or vegetable pasta just before serving, it adds freshness and depth to the dish. An oil for every day that still tastes like Apulia.

Coratina and Ogliarola in balance

The appeal of Cru di Puglia lies in the blend: two Apulian varieties complement each other here to create an oil that neither could achieve on its own.

The Coratina brings fruit, spice, and green intensity, while the mild Ogliarola Barese smooths out the edges with its soft, almond-like character. Those who wish to get to know the two varieties individually will find the robust Coratina in the Coppadoro and the gentle Ogliarola in the Faresse. In Cru di Puglia, they meet in the golden mean.

PGI origin from the Ciccolella family

PGI stands for Indicazione Geografica Protetta, the Protected Geographical Indication, which guarantees that an olive oil derives its origin and production methods from a specific region. Unlike the stricter PDO seal, which binds every step to a narrowly defined area, PGI only requires that the defining characteristics of the oil originate from the region.

For Cru di Puglia, this means: Apulian olives, harvested and processed in Apulia. The Ciccolella family has been tending their approximately 8,000 trees near Molfetta since 1878 and, now in the fourth generation, presses the olives in their own mill just hours after being harvested by hand, right by the Adriatic Sea. Today, Giuseppe Ciccolella runs the business, powered by their own photovoltaic system, using glass bottles and paper labels.

Those who prefer an even more precise protected origin will also find the PDO oil Cagnara from the Terra di Bari in the Olio Ciccolella range.

Cru di Puglia comes in a 500 ml bottle, a good size for daily use in the kitchen. Like any extra virgin olive oil, it is best stored in a cool, dark place, away from the stove and windowsill, and enjoyed young, because oil does not improve with age but should be consumed fresh.

Origin Italy, Apulia – PGI Olio di Puglia – Coratina and Ogliarola Barese – extra virgin olive oil – Harvest October 2025

Olio Ciccolella
