Classic Berger milk chocolate with 37 percent cocoa

Beneath the greeting lies a creamy organic milk chocolate, mild and tenderly melting.

Raw cane sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder and cocoa mass, plus a touch of real vanilla, all ingredients from organic farming. On the tongue the bar melts slowly, with a round milky flavor and a gentle vanilla sweetness. Behind the greeting are organic ingredients and Fairtrade cocoa, and the motif changes nothing about that. Milky, creamy, classic – this is how it tastes, whatever greeting it carries. From Lofer in Salzburg's Saalach Valley

The bar is made at Berger Feinste Confiserie in Lofer, where Hubert and Christine Berger started out in 1994.

A garage in the Saalach Valley has grown into one of Austria's best-known confectioneries, with around 100 employees and nine shops. Alongside the greeting bars, pralines, truffles and seasonal varieties are made there, all by hand, just as Christine and Hubert have done from the very beginning. The bar holds 70 g of chocolate, just right for bringing a little joy. Put it with the flowers, at the place setting or on top of the present, and it lifts the mood at once. Stored cool and dry, away from strongly scented neighbors in the cupboard, it stays tender until the big day. So you can easily buy it a few days ahead; until then it keeps its gloss and its melt.

Serve it with the birthday coffee, broken into pieces on the cake plate, or simply press it into the hand of the one celebrating.
