Over the centuries, a spectacular terraced landscape has been created across an area of approximately 250,000 hectares. About one-tenth of this – the 24,600-hectare Alto Douro Vinhateiro – has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2001. Locals refer to this exquisite drop with its rich, heavy sweetness as the "nectar of the gods." Portus Cale – Tradition and Craftsmanship from Portugal

The production of natural soaps has a 300-year tradition in Portugal – Castelbel's own history began in 1999.

Not far from the port city of Porto in northern Portugal lies the small village of Castêlo da Maia, where the company was based and found its name: Castelbel – beautiful castle.

In the beginning, Castelbel produced private label goods for high-end department stores. Since 2006, the Castelbel Ambiente series (Lavender, Rose, Verbena) has featured soaps and wonderful room fragrances in exquisite glass diffusers, which are exported from Portugal to the entire world. A year later, the exclusive Portus Cale collection followed, which has found enthusiasts as far afield as Dubai, South Africa, and Japan thanks to its Portuguese product design and delights museum guests in the restrooms of the Louvre in Paris.
