Portus Cale Ruby Red – Soap craftsmanship from Portugal

The production of natural soaps has a 300-year-old tradition in Portugal – Castelbel's own story began in 1999, when Aquiles Barros, a respected professor of chemistry and former employee of the soap manufacturer Ach Brito, decided to establish something new and entirely his own.

Not far from the port city of Porto in northern Portugal lies the small village of Castêlo da Maia. This is where the company was based, and where it found its name: Castelbel – beautiful castle.

Initially, Castelbel produced private labels for a New York department store, and later for the Galeries Lafayette in Paris. The name Castelbel remained behind the scenes. In 2006, the Castelbel Ambiente series (lavender, rose, verbena) was launched, and the success story began. The wonderful home fragrances in beautiful glass diffusers, which are exported from Portugal to the entire world, have contributed significantly to this.

A year later, the exclusive Portus Cale series followed. Its Portuguese product design has found fans here, as well as in Dubai, South Africa, and Japan, and it delights museum guests in the restrooms of the Louvre in Paris.
