This blanket is made from 25% wool from Gotland sheep—a breed shorn as far back as the Viking Age, when the high quality of their wool was already highly prized—and 75% lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the very first shearing of a lamb; it is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like new wool, it is typically harvested from living sheep in the spring, usually in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being dyed a vibrant sun-yellow and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is known for being soft, breathable, and having excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer.
